Community Policing Police School Liaison
Another
program which got its start as a result of a "Public Forum on
Safety" held in February of 1995, was the initiation of our
Police-School Liaison program. A cooperative effort of the Plymouth
School District, (which subsidizes 50% of the officer's wages), and
the city of Plymouth resulted in the appointment of Plymouth's first
Police-School Liaison officer.
Police School Liaison is maintained at both Riverview middle School and Plymouth High School, with time divided equally between those two schools. The duties of the Police-School Liaison officer are many and the hours worked prove the flexibility of both the position and the officer in it. The liaison officer will routinely handle in-school behavior problems, investigate crimes, act as a counselor, provide security and help to maintain a safe school environment.
