Prevention Tips
Auto Theft
AUTO THEFT PREVENTION
-
Park in well lighted, busy
areas.
-
Always lock your car.
-
Always lock your valuables
in the trunk or take them with you.
-
Give the attendant only
your ignition key.
-
Take your registration and
insurance card with you.
-
Copy your VIN (Vehicle
Identification Number) and know your license plate number.
-
Etch your VIN on your
vehicle's windows, doors, fenders, and trunk lid.
-
If your car is stolen or
broken into, report it to the police immediately. Stolen
vehicles are often used in other crimes and the sooner it is
reported, the better chance of recovery.
Your Responsibility As A Car
Owner
-
If you move notify the
department of Motor vehicles so that your address on the
vehicle listing can be changed.
-
Have the Vehicle
Identification Number checked before buying a car from
someone other than a reputable automobile dealer. If the car
is found to be stolen, you will probably be out the money.
-
NEVER let a prospective
buyer take your car for a test drive alone. Always go with
them.
-
NEVER keep the vehicles
title of ownership in the car and do not sign it until you
actually transfer ownership.
Failure To Remove The Ignition Key
-
Is a violation of the law
if parked on public property.
-
Invites theft.
-
Could become a contributing
cause to an innocent person's injury or death.
-
Can raise your insurance
rates
Remember...
Always lock all car doors.
Don't make the criminal's job easier.
